Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha, serving as a Bishop within the Methodist Church Nigeria, has delivered a poignant message of caution to government officials and the political echelon. With a discerning eye on the burgeoning hunger crisis gripping the nation, he underscores the urgent need for proactive measures. He elucidates how this pressing issue, if left unaddressed, could serve as a catalyst for profound societal upheaval and unrest, permeating across all strata of Nigerian society.

In his compelling message titled “Listen to the cries of the poor now to avert anarchy,” the Bishop passionately articulated that a multitude of Nigerians are grappling with the harsh reality of starvation, devoid of any glimmer of hope for sustenance.

He urged both federal and state governments to transcend mere rhetoric and implement effective economic policies to rescue the struggling masses from their dire plight.

He expressed deep concern over the prevailing condition where many families in Nigeria are grappling with the harsh reality of barely being able to afford a single meal daily. Furthermore, for those fortunate enough to have some sustenance, the looming uncertainty about the next meal exacerbates their plight. Stressing the urgency of the situation, he called upon governments at all levels to swiftly devise and implement robust policies aimed at mitigating the soaring prices of food items and other essential commodities.

According to the Bishop, the faces of hungry Nigerians now look scary and unfriendly because of sustained hunger in them.

“The look on people’s faces daily, portrays anger, vexation, hunger among others. Nigerians are passing through a whole lot in meeting up with daily demands of their families. Interactions I have had with people over the last couple of months have further prompted me to believe that Nigerians need a lifeline, quickly too”.

He further told the political class in the country that hungry Nigerians are unhappy with them.
