Residents of Apete, Awotan, Araromi, Jeje, Arola in Ido Local Council and their counterparts from Ajibode, Masoke and Laniba in Akinyele Local Council of Oyo State, Saturday, took to the streets to launch a no-metre-no-payment campaign.
The residents, who started the protest at Awotan, said they would not pay any official of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), unless they were metered. They warned officials of the electricity distribution company not to come to their houses without prepaid meters.
The residents called for regularization of PHCN meters, provision of more feeders, transformers for their communities, meters for all unmetered houses and stoppage of crazy bills.
The residents insisted that failure to abide by their demands, no officials of the electricity distribution company would be allowed to either collect money from residents or disconnect electricity supply.
The residents, during the campaign, placed their banners at strategic locations for the public to be sensitized. Chairman of Ajibode, Apete, Awotan, Araromi, Akufo and environs’ Community Development Association, Engineer Rasak Fabayo, speaking during the campaign, complained during the campaign that the communities paid for what they did not consume.
“On behalf of residents of Apete, Awotan, Araromi Akufo, Laniba and Ajibode, we are launching this campaign. If any IBEDC official comes to your house to demand for money, tell them that no meter, no payment,” he said.
