In response to a viral video purportedly shared by a family member about the passing of his wife, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has affirmed that his family remains united.
Speaking to Government House reporters upon arriving at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo for former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere’s 60th birthday celebration on Saturday, Eno emphasized that unfounded insinuations by critics won’t deter him from pursuing his ARISE Agenda and honoring his social commitment to Akwa Ibom residents.
He remarked, “We’re in an election season, so this kind of thing is to be expected. My family is intact—you can see them here with me. The event in that video took place right after my wife passed away last year, so why is it emerging now? Why surface on the eve of our second anniversary and amid celebrations of our achievements? Clearly, there are detractors at work. My family is together—you can see Jane with us, and that’s Helen and her husband. We remain strong.”
Eno added, “When children lose a parent, the trauma can be immense, and we must acknowledge that. I ask the public not to reopen painful memories. I have already suffered the loss of my wife, and I pray they let her rest in peace. I cannot be distracted; I remain focused on serving Akwa Ibom. I wouldn’t wish my experience on anyone. To those spreading these rumors, if that’s their desire, I wish them luck.”
He also extended birthday wishes to Obong Nsima Ekere, praying for continued health, long life, and wisdom so he can keep contributing to the state’s and nation’s development.
