Residents of Ondo and Ekiti States are bracing for an extensive two-month power outage, as the Transmission Commission of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes critical infrastructure maintenance on the Osogbo/Akure – Ado – Ekiti 132kV line.
The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) announced via their social media channels that the maintenance work, which includes the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and other essential upgrades, will commence on July 1 and continue until August 31. The notice detailed, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, is scheduled to carry out critical maintenance work on the 132kV Akure Osogbo transmission line. This planned work involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and other activities, requiring outages on the affected network to ensure a safe working space.”
During this period, the affected areas in Ondo and Ekiti will experience daily power outages from 0800hrs to 1700hrs (9 hours daily). BEDC’s statement highlighted that customers in these regions will face service interruptions throughout the planned outages. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and kindly solicit your patience and understanding,” the company added, seeking cooperation from the public during this necessary maintenance phase.
