Dr. Mainasara Umar Kogo, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, has called for intensified military action against bandits and terrorists in Nigeria, including targeted bombings of nine forests across the northern region.
Speaking at the 2025 Sir Ahmadu Bello National Annual Memorial Conference held at Arewa House in Kaduna, Kogo stressed the urgent need for decisive measures to combat insecurity. The event, themed “Nigeria’s Leadership for National Cohesion and Stability under Contemporary Governance,” brought together dignitaries and stakeholders from across the North.
In his address, Kogo highlighted nine forests serving as terrorist hideouts: Sambisa (Borno), Mandara Mountains (near Lake Chad), Falgore (Kano), Rugu (Katsina), Sabon Birni (Sokoto), Dansadau (Zamfara), Birnin-Gwari (Kaduna), Kontagora (Niger), and Birnin Kogo (Katsina). He urged the military to bomb these locations to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security.
Kogo also proposed converting these areas into industrial agricultural zones to create jobs, boost economic activities, and address hunger. “We must take bold steps to tackle insecurity and build a safer, more prosperous nation,” he stated.
In addition, the CCT chairman recommended overhauling the national security architecture, including establishing specialized security agencies like the National Border Security Police and National Cyber Crime Police. He also called for constitutional amendments to enhance collaboration between the police and other security agencies.
Kogo further emphasized the need for accountability in security expenditure over the past two decades and criticized the lack of convictions despite the seizure of arms and arrests of informants and collaborators.
Ahmed Abdullahi, National President of the Gamji Heritage Association, also addressed the gathering, urging unity and collective efforts to overcome Nigeria’s challenges. He praised the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello, highlighting his contributions to Northern development, including the establishment of Arewa House and Ahmadu Bello University.
The conference served as a platform for reflecting on Northern Nigeria’s history and strategizing for the future. Other speakers included Ambassador Ibrahim Mai Sule, Justice Mainasara Umar Kogo, and Prof. Abubakar Saddique Mohammed.
