The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Ifedola Senasu Gabriel Okupevi, Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos, Anglican Communion, warmly congratulates President Bola Tinubu and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, following the commencement of petroleum product loading on November 26, 2024.

The Bishop hails this significant achievement as a beacon of hope for a new Nigeria, highlighting the transformative power of revitalizing the nation’s infrastructure. He commends the administration’s commitment to ensuring energy sufficiency and views this milestone as proof of what can be accomplished through collective dedication to national progress.

President Tinubu, in turn, has recognized the vital role of former President Muhammadu Buhari in kickstarting the comprehensive rehabilitation of the country’s refineries and expressed appreciation to the African Export-Import Bank for its financial backing of the Port Harcourt refinery project. The President also praised the steadfast leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, for the resilience and focus that made this success possible.

As this development sets a new standard, the Bishop supports the President’s call for the swift reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries. These initiatives, along with contributions from privately owned refineries, are positioning Nigeria as an emerging energy hub while addressing long-standing challenges in domestic petroleum refining.

The Rt. Rev’d Okupevi aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that this achievement represents integrity, accountability, and a shared commitment to progress. He encourages Nigerians to remain hopeful for a brighter, self-sufficient future that fosters collective economic prosperity.

The revival of this refinery is not only a technical success but also a symbolic step toward building a Nigeria that can harness its vast resources for the benefit of its people and the world.
