Chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have decided to meet with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the country’s current situation.
Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq, Secretary of the APC States Chairmen’s Forum and Chairman of Cross River State, revealed this plan to the press on Thursday following their meeting in Abuja. According to Daily Trust, Nigerians are increasingly distressed by worsening issues such as insecurity, hunger, poverty, rising fuel prices, and electricity tariffs.
Ogar, joined by Acting Chairman Hon Cornelius Ojelabi and other state chairmen, stated that the upcoming meeting would address a range of concerns, including the ongoing hardships faced by the populace. He explained, “The APC States Chairmen’s Forum convened to discuss critical issues related to our party’s democratic principles and the effectiveness of our APC-led administration under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima.”
The Forum has resolved to hold a closed-door meeting with the NWC and the government to discuss recent decisions, including the extension granted to the caretaker committee of Rivers State APC, led by Chief Tony Okocha. Ogar noted, “Regarding the current hardships, we acknowledge the complaints and intend to discuss these issues in depth with the NWC and the federal government. Until these matters are thoroughly addressed, it would be premature to make further public statements.”
He also mentioned that the state chairmen are collaborating with the NWC to resolve issues within certain state chapters of the party. Ogar expressed optimism that the NWC’s decision to extend the tenure of the caretaker committee in Rivers State would strengthen the party’s position as preparations for the 2027 elections progress.
The Forum highlighted the achievements of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as a performing minister, citing his contributions to security, infrastructure, and human capital development in the FCT. However, they did not address whether non-performing ministers should be dismissed.
