TOPIC: GUARDIAN ANGELS
Text: Mat. 18:1-10
8:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
8:2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,
8:3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
8:4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
8:5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.
8:6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
8:7 Woe to the world because of [a]offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
8:8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire.
8:9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into [b]hell fire.
8:10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
STUDY:
Today, September 29, is Saint Michael and all Angels Day, a day set aside to celebrate the Ministry of the Angels. On this day, we are reminded of the role of Angel Michael who is known for being in command of many angels to fight the dragon (Rev. 12:7-8; cf Dan. 10:12-13). Angels are created beings but by nature, are spirits meant to assist us. They are not to be worshipped or prayed to (Rev. 22:9; Col. 2:18). They are ministering servants to believers (Heb. 1:14), and shall be judged by believers (1 Cor. 6:3). Angels praise the Lord and do His commands (Psa. 103:20; 148:2); rejoice in the salvation of men (Luke 15:10); and minister to the heirs of salvation (Heb. 1:14 cf 1 Kings 19:5-8; Dan. 6:22).
Verse 10 of our text today reveals that believers have guardian angels. Just as we have physical security guards who defend us against physical enemies, so too believers have heavenly security guards—angels who watch over us. If the Lord will open our eyes to see the angels keeping guard over us, we will get to know that the angelic guards on our side are more than the evil forces in our enemy’s camp (2 Kings 6:15-17). Let us take the Lord by His word that “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20), and be assured that His guardian angels will continually attend to us to protect us from the evil one.

Father, thank you for the angels you have posted to watch over me. Amen.
