TOPIC: THE UPPER ROOM EXPERIENCE

TEXT: Acts 1:12-14(NKJV)

  • 1:12. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.
  • 1:13. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James [the son] of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas [the son] of James.
  • 1:14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

STUDY:

As soon as Christ ascended, his disciples returned to Jerusalem, and entered an upper room. There, they continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, waiting for the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

They gave themselves to the ministry of prayer in conscious preparation for the journey of ministry ahead of them. This is a great lesson for us today. For a personal or corporate spiritual energy, we need the upper room lifestyle – a life of devotion, detachment from distraction, and diligence in serious prayer.

The disciples chose the upper room to set themselves apart, from possible distractions, so that they could concentrate on their prayers during their temporal solitude. Christ did the same before launching into public ministry. We must also live a life of prayer by choose a time and a quiet place, and engaging God in prayer and fasting.

This is very important for a victorious Christian living. It helps us to measure our journey with God, and gives us spiritual understanding of the demands of the work ahead. Beloved, please do not be too busy to engage the secret place of prayer. Trigger the upper room experience today!

PRAYER:

Dear Father, please create in me the desire to encounter you afresh at the place of prayer.
