TOPIC: THE ORDAINED LIFE FOR BELIEVERS

TEXT: Ephesians 4:17-22(NKJV)

  • 4:17. This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
  • 4:18. having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
  • 4:19. who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
  • 4:20. But you have not so learned Christ,
  • 4:21. if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
  • 4:22. that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

STUDY:

Notice that there are two outstanding reasons for which the Gentiles (the unsaved) live habitually in all manner of passion and lust without any feeling of remorse or shame. The first is ignorance and the second is the blindness or hardness of their hearts.

Every believer must put off the old man with his sinful lifestyle which includes corruption and deceitful lusts. These two issues are important to believers.

We do not have the excuse of ignorance, neither is our heart still hardened towards God, for He has given us a new heart. It is therefore wrong if having known the truth, we still live as though we are still in our unsaved state.

If you have really experienced Christ, and heard his truth, it will be seen in your life; for we know that the ultimate reality is embodied in Jesus! Examine yourself therefore if the life of Christ is manifest in you or you are still living in sin.

The truth is that we have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer our lives that we live (Rom. 6:6; Gal. 2:20). It is in the light of this truth that we are advised “that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.”

PRAYER:

Help me, dear Father, to live like Jesus, Amen!
