Topic: WE NEED ONE ANOTHER

Text: Galatians 1:18-24

1:18   Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.

1:19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.

1:20   (Now concerning the things which I write to you, indeed, before God, I do not lie.)

1:21 Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.

1:22 And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ.

1:23 But they were hearing only, “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.”

1:24 And they glorified God in me.

STUDY:

Paul was a great apostle of all times. He was also a great instrument in the Kingdom of Christ. Our text today clearly rehearses his salvation story. Paul told the Galatians how he went to Jerusalem after his conversion and stayed with Peter for fifteen days and this stay, was for fellowship and encouragement. Peter, though one of the foremost disciples of Jesus Christ, was not as learned as Paul; he was a fisherman (Luke 5:1-3; Acts 4:13). Yet, Paul found it important to stay with him for fifteen days.

Beloved, it is a dangerous thing to attempt to make oneself an island in the practice of the Christian faith. No Christian is independent; we are all inter-dependent (Romans 12: 4 & 5). The educated need the uneducated, just as the rich need the less privileged members of the Church. We all need one another in order to grow in the practice of our faith. God has ordained that none of us functions independently; He delights in our genuine fellowship with one another. Therefore, remember that you need to connect to other believers in Christ so as to grow and maintain a healthy Christian life. Never look down on your fellow believers; do not claim superiority over anyone around you. Even if it is obvious that you are better than someone else, it is by God’s grace (1 Cor. 4:7). We will always need one another; do not look down on anyone.

Prayer

Father, give me a genuine heart of fellowship without discrimination. Amen.
