TOPIC: BOUGHT WITH A PRICE

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:11-20 (NKJV)

  • 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
  • 6:12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
  • 6:13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
  • 6:14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
  • 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
  • 6:16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
  • 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
  • 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
  • 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
  • 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

STUDY

Christian integrity, self-control, and virtuous living are central to today’s message. Paul strongly encourages the Corinthian believers to reject immoral living and submit to God’s authority. As Christians, our lives are not to be guided by worldly standards but by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, guiding us to live godly lives. According to verse 20, the price for our redemption was the pure blood of Jesus. He took our place on the cross, becoming sin for us, so that we might be made righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Many things may be lawful for us, but they do not always bring glory to God. Paul warns us to avoid activities that focus on self-satisfaction rather than honoring God. Unbelievers may indulge in deceit, greed, immorality, and compromise, but we, as believers, must live by a higher standard. Our lives are now under new management—God’s! We are no longer our own; we have been purchased by the blood of Jesus, and our bodies are now temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16). Remember, you are now a citizen of heaven, living on earth as an ambassador of Christ.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, help me to live daily in a way that glorifies You. May my body and spirit reflect Your righteousness. Amen!
