TOPIC: SEEK ONLY THE LORD
TEXT: Isaiah 8: 18-22(NKJV)
- 8:18. Here am I and the children whom the LORD has given me! [We are] for signs and wonders in Israel From the LORD of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion.
- 8:19. And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? [Should they seek] the dead on behalf of the living?
- 8:20. To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.
- 8:21. They will pass through it hard pressed and hungry; and it shall happen, when they are hungry, that they will be enraged and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
- 8:22. Then they will look to the earth, and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and [they will be] driven into darkness.
STUDY:
In today’s text, God was still speaking to Isaiah. Yesterday, Isaiah was warned not to fear or panic like the people; in today’s text, he was advised to seek only the Lord in the midst of all that confronted him. Isaiah was warned not to join the people to seek help from mediums and wizards;who “seekthe deadon behalfofthe living”(v.19).
In the Christian race, a believer’s faith will always be tested by challenges. However, the way he handles these challenges will prove his faith to observers. A commercial cyclist once narrated how he conveyed some ‘pastors’ to shrines and covens to seek for ‘power’ to do miracles. Such pastors who consult the devil for power for ministry are simply telling their followers that God is not sufficient to solve their problems, and by their actions, they make some refuse to worship God.
But the truth is that if God is not enough to solve our problems, no one else can! God remains the final and permanent solution to all challenges; every other solution is temporary! Seek for solution today from the Lord, with all your heart, and He will never disappoint you.
PRAYER:
I will lift up my eyes to the hills-, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121: 1-2).
