Topic:A PLACE FOR THE LORD

Text:Psalm 132:1-9

132:1 A Song of Ascents. Lord, remember David And all his afflictions;

132:2 How he swore to the Lord, And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

132:3 “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, Or go up to the comfort of my bed;

132:4 I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,

132:5 Until I find a place for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

132:6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; We found it in the fields of the woods.

132:7 Let us go into His tabernacle; Let us worship at His footstool.

132:8Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.

132:9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your saints shout for joy.

STUDY:

After David built his palace, he was concerned that the Ark was still in a tent, so he desired to build a more permanent place of worship (1 Chron.17). In our text, David expresses in poetry, his burning desire to build the temple. He was ready to sacrifice his personal comfort and rest to ensure this. The temple would serve as a place for meeting with God, where the priests would be clothed with righteousness and the saints rejoice. David discussed his plans with Prophet Nathan, who told him to go ahead. However, that night, God told Nathan to inform David that he was not the one to build the temple because of his many wars and the associated bloodshed(1 Chron. 17:4;28:2-3). However, for having this thought, God promised to build him an everlasting dynasty.

God does not dwell in physical temples, but in the lives and hearts of His people (Acts 7:48-50;1 Cor.3:16). Any physical structure or system we set up should stive the purpose of enabling the users to meet with God and grow in fellowship with Him. Is your own heart a suitable dwelling place for the Lord? What roles are you playing to ensure that wherever you are, is an enabling environment to meet with God?

Prayer

Arise, OLORD, and take your place in my heart.
