Security challenges of the nation held back the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to arrive late to decorate 40 of his newly promoted Commissioners of Police at a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday 8 January 2020
The IGP said that at these times of several security challenges across the globe, the nation demanded the loyalty, excellence and professional ability of the senior police officers.
The IGP could not announce postings for the new officers as sources told me it might not be ready in a week’s time.
IGP Adamu pledged his readiness to cooperate at all times with the Police Service Commission (PSC) over the efficient policy to only promote deserving officers of the Force
stating that 115 officers had been promoted on merit since last year.
Mr. Adamu told the new Commissioners of Police that he was proud of them as ‘’you all fit into my human capacity requirement” adding that he is out for a reform agenda on sustainable development efforts of the Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba had told the gathering that only two important hierarchical positions were recognized in the Nigerian police system by the constitution of the Federal Republic ; the Commissioner of Police (CP) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) hence the importance attached to the two offices in the Police Force.
The IGP who excused himself out of the ceremony handed over to his Deputy Inspector General of Police to decorate the new CP’s . He was assisted in the decoration by former Head of Service, Ms. Amma Pepple; former Lagos State Governor, Brig. General Buba Marwa; former Director General of the NDLEA, Chief Lanre Ipinmisho; Commandant of the War College and some members of the House of Representatives.
