A trader, Omowunmi Oladejo, 30 has been remanded at the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos till she is able to fulfill the bail conditions granted her by an Igbosere Magistrate Court for allegedly using a razor blade to slash the two cheeks of her co-tenant, Roliat Ibrahim for indirectly insulting her.
The order was handed down by Magistrate, A.A Adetunji after the accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of unlawful assault, occasioning bodily harm preferred against her by the Police at the Adeniji Adele Police Division, Lagos Island.
Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji informed the Court in charge No L/59/2017 that the accused committed the offence on 15 October, 2017 at Oja-Oba market,Lagos Island where she resides with the complainant.
Osuji told the court that the accused stated in her statement to the Police that she used the razor blade to slashed the two cheeks of her co-tenant to shut up her mouth from further using it to indirectly insult her.
Osuji further told the court that the victim is in a critical conditions at the emergency ward of the Lagos Island General Hospital where she is receiving treatment as she has not been able to talk or eat since the incident occurred because doctors have stitched her two cheeks.
He said that the offence the accused committed is punishable under section 245 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Oladeji pleaded not guilty to the charge in the open Court and Magistrate A.A Adetunji granted her bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adetunji directed that the sureties must be property owner in Lagos State with proof of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Adetunji adjourned the case till 8 November, 2017 for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison,Apapa till she is able to perfect her bail conditions.
