Amid public outrage over police misconduct, the Nigeria Police Force has summoned a group of officers caught in a viral video extorting motorists.

The video, which went viral on Monday, shows one of the officers demanding either ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel from drivers who failed to present proof of Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR).

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the incident in a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), describing the officers’ behaviour as unacceptable.

“This action is utterly condemned. The officers have been identified and summoned to Force Headquarters for necessary action,” he said.

Adejobi added that the Force would not tolerate indiscipline or unprofessional conduct, assuring the public that appropriate measures would be taken and updates provided in due course.
