The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced predictions for thundery weather conditions nationwide from Thursday to Saturday. According to the agency’s weather outlook released on Wednesday, the northern region can expect morning thunderstorms on Thursday.
Regional Thunderstorm Predictions:
– Northern Region: Thunderstorms are forecasted for parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states, along with Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kebbi later in the day.
– North Central Region: Morning thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue States, with more thunderstorms expected in the afternoon.
– Southern Region: Thunderstorms are predicted for Ebonyi and Enugu in the morning, spreading across most areas later.
On Friday, morning thunderstorms are expected in Taraba State, with afternoon storms likely in Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa. The North Central region will see similar weather patterns, with thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon.
Saturday Forecast:
On Saturday, thunderstorms are again expected in Taraba and Adamawa States, with additional storms in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and the Federal Capital Territory. The southern region will also experience widespread thunderstorms throughout the day.
NiMet warns of a high risk of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall and advises residents to stay clear of flood-prone areas. Strong winds may precede the rain in regions experiencing thunderstorms.
