In the past three months, over 300 suspected criminals have been arrested and paraded by the Ondo State Security Network, known as Amotekun. Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of the outfit, confirmed that these arrests were made across 15 locations in the 18 local government areas of the state. Speaking in Akure, the state capital, Adeleye attributed the surge in arrests to the rising influx of bandits into the South-West region, prompting heightened security measures to safeguard Ondo State.

He revealed that many of the suspects apprehended in border communities were connected to various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, and other offenses.

“Over the past three months, we have arrested and paraded over 300 suspects in approximately 15 locations across the state’s 18 local government areas,” Adeleye explained. “Most were involved in crimes like kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, and other minor offenses. Some have been prosecuted, others had their cases resolved, while many are still in correctional centers.”

The commander credited the success of these operations to effective grassroots intelligence, facilitated by Amotekun’s covert “ambassadors” who operate within local communities. “These ambassadors collect valuable information, helping us to identify and arrest criminals collaborating with bad actors. This approach has yielded significant results, with every arrest being based on intelligence gathered from towns and villages.”

Adeleye reassured the public that the security outfit remains committed to tackling the influx of bandits and driving out those who have already entered the state. “We’ve devised strategies to make Ondo State too hot for criminals to stay,” he said, emphasizing that Amotekun is always on high alert.

The commander also acknowledged the support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for providing the necessary environment for Amotekun to carry out its operations effectively.
