In a recent address, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, love, and gratitude, emphasizing the importance of sharing resources and supporting each other during difficult times.

Following the Eid-el-Adha prayers at Dodan Barracks, Lagos, Bola Ahmed Tinubu shared insights on the essence of sacrifice in realizing the dreams envisioned by Nigeria’s founding fathers.

Tinubu emphasized, “Being a responsible citizen entails certain duties. What actions do you take to contribute meaningfully to our society? Go forth and make sacrifices. Embrace love for your country and your neighbors, share your blessings with one another, and express gratitude to the Almighty. That’s the crux of it.”

His remarks come at a crucial juncture, as Nigeria grapples with significant economic challenges, including an annual inflation rate of 33.95% as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics in May 2024.

Earlier, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat addressed worshippers, highlighting the importance of perseverance and patience. He encouraged Muslims to reflect on the significance of Eid-el-Adha, symbolizing sacrifice and endurance.

Hamzat emphasized, “Let us strive for peace and harmony, exercising patience and perseverance to enjoy the blessings of our land. Let us embody the ideals of good Muslims and responsible citizens of Nigeria, fulfilling the expectations set by Almighty Allah.”

The Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Suleiman Abou-Nolla, conveyed the Eid-el-Adha message, emphasizing the importance of revering God and living in complete submission to Allah. He underscored that all prophets, from Adam to Muhammad (S.A.W.), preached the message of sacrifice.

Abou-Nolla stated, “Our esteemed leaders such as the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, and others, dedicated their knowledge, wealth, hard work, and even their lives to the growth and development of our nation. Their endeavors were all aimed at nation-building.”

“We must therefore ensure that their sacrifices are not in vain. It is our duty to follow in their footsteps to ensure that Nigeria continues to progress,” he added.

Among the dignitaries present were Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Principal Private Secretary Hakeem Muri-Okunola, former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, and Senator Gbenga Ashafa.
