On Monday, a group of women in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, held a peaceful protest in support of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.
Dressed in white, the women gathered at Garrison Bus Stop as early as 8 a.m. and marched along Aba Road toward the Government House, singing solidarity songs in support of the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd).
The demonstration follows last week’s protest by another group, Rivers Women for Sim, who opposed the emergency rule and condemned the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
President Tinubu declared the state of emergency on March 18 amid an escalating political crisis in the state. As part of the measures, Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended for an initial six-month period.
Vice Admiral Ibas, a retired naval officer, was appointed to oversee the state during this interim period.
