The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has openly declared its readiness to welcome Governor Siminalayi Fubara should he choose to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a conversation with PUNCH, the chairman of Rivers chapter of APC Chief Emeka Beke, described the potential move as a significant strategic advantage, poised to reshape the state’s political dynamics.

Beke emphasized that governors not aligned with the ruling party often face substantial challenges in securing funding and fully participating in state governance.

“We are prepared to receive Governor Fubara. His defection would give the APC a strategic advantage in Rivers State,” he stated,” he noted.

“As sitting governor, he would automatically assume leadership of the party of the party in Rivers state enabling the APC to take a leading role in state affairs and programs.”

He expressed confidence that Governor Fubara’s potential shift to the APC would significantly boost the party’s influence and strength within the state.

On a different note, the Rivers State Elders and Leaders Council has made it clear it’s staying out of party politics. Their sole concern remains the reinstatement of Governor Fubara.

Addressing the rumors that Fubara might possibly defect to the APC, Anabs Sara-Igbe, a council member dismissed the speculation as irrelevant.

“Rivera people are not concerned with party politics right now. Out main interest is seeing Siminalayi Fubara reinstated as Governor,” he said “We elected him to lead us, and we do not want anyone else controlling our resources.”
