The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has condemned the display of Russian flags by some protesters in Kano State, labeling it as an act of rebellion against Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Speaking at the 2024 All Anglican Clergy Conference at CMS Grammar School in Lagos on August 6, 2024, he urged Nigerians to stand up against such actions and criticized those who support flying Russian flags in the country, calling it “despicable” and asserting, “We cannot sell this nation to the Russians.”

While acknowledging the protesters’ right to voice their frustration over hunger and hardship, Primate Ndukuba called for restraint and patience, urging them to allow the government time to address the economic challenges through its proposed measures.

He also appealed to the police and military to handle the protesters with humanity, recalling the tragic EndSARS incident from four years ago. He encouraged the government to engage in dialogue to prevent the exploitation of protests by criminal elements.

Primate Ndukuba praised the military for their efforts against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping but cautioned against political involvement, stating, “The worst civilian government is better than military rule.” He urged Nigerians to pray for an end to corruption, which continues to impoverish millions.
