Nigerians have been urged to embrace moderation this Christmas by the Anglican Primate, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, who emphasized the importance of prudent spending, love, and supporting disadvantaged community members.

Speaking at a state-of-the-nation press briefing in Abuja ahead of the festive season, Primate Ndukuba called for selflessness and a focus on the welfare of others as crucial steps to address Nigeria’s growing socio-economic and security challenges.

The Primate highlighted the worsening issues of hunger and food insecurity, worsened by insecurity preventing farmers from accessing their fields. He also addressed the economic strain caused by rising fuel prices and inflation, which have left many households struggling to meet their basic needs during the festive period. According to Primate Ndukuba, systemic corruption and greed remain at the heart of Nigeria’s challenges.

“Leadership must connect with the experiences of ordinary Nigerians,” Primate Ndukuba remarked, urging leaders to prioritize service over personal gain. He called for leadership that embodies sacrifice and selflessness, inspired by the message of Christmas.

Despite the hardships, the Primate commended the resilience of Nigerians, who continue to face economic struggles with hope. He expressed optimism that ongoing reforms, if implemented effectively and coupled with efforts to combat corruption, could bring about positive change by 2025.

In his Christmas message, Primate Ndukuba encouraged Nigerians to focus on the true essence of the season: love, sharing, and community. He advised citizens to celebrate within their means and to support one another during these challenging times. “Even with little, we can show care for others,” he said, advocating for unity and mutual generosity.

He also urged the National Orientation Agency to ramp up efforts in educating and mobilizing Nigerians to work toward a shared vision for national development.

Drawing inspiration from the Christmas story, Primate Ndukuba emphasized the need for leadership to be rooted in empathy and engagement with the struggles of the people.

Closing on a hopeful note, he called on both leaders and citizens to make sacrifices for the greater good, emphasizing that transformation is possible if everyone works together for a better future.
