Bishop Ndubuisi Obi Celebrates Nnewi Youth Delegates to 2025 Joshua Generation Conference

The Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Ndubuisi Obi, accompanied by Diocesan officials and clergy, warmly received the youth delegates from Nnewi Diocese who participated in the 2025 Joshua Generation International Youth Conference held in Abuja.

During the reception at the Bishop’s Court, Nnewi, the leader of the delegation and Diocesan Chaplain of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF), Rev’d Noble Nwokedi, formally presented the certificates of participation and awards received at the conference. He handed them over to Bishop Obi, expressing deep gratitude for the Bishop’s sponsorship of over 130 youths to the Church of Nigeria’s mega youth gathering.

Bishop Obi, visibly joyful, commended the delegates for representing the Diocese excellently and bringing home various awards and certificates. He noted that the Diocese of Nnewi has always stood out for excellence, both within and outside the church, and praised the initiative of the Primate and the conference organizers for creating a platform that nurtures youth talent.

Encouraging the youths, the Bishop urged them to pursue excellence in all areas of life, remain focused in their careers, and resist the temptations brought on by the country’s current challenges. He warned against idolatry and encouraged the use of their God-given talents to serve the Lord at every opportunity.

In recognition of outstanding performance, Bishop Obi awarded a total of ₦1.6 million to three participants:

  • Miss Queen Ezinwa Ajuluchukwu, a 200-level Accounting student at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Edorji, Uruagu Nnewi, received a cheque of ₦1,000,000 for securing 1st place in the 100-meter race.
  • Miss Daberechi Egbuna, a 200-level Law student at the same university and member of St. Barth’s Church, Umuezeagu, Uruagu Nnewi, was awarded ₦500,000 for finishing 2nd in both the relay race and volleyball competition.
  • A sum of ₦100,000 was shared among Mr. Nnamdi Obi, Mrs. Favour Obi, and Bro. Marvelous Omeogo for their active participation in the African Cultural Display segment.

Following the presentation, the Sub-Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Ekene Iroanusi, gave a vote of thanks, applauding the Bishop’s generosity and fatherly concern for the youths. He described the gesture as a major encouragement that would strengthen the faith and zeal of the recipients.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Miss Queen Ezinwa Ajuluchukwu expressed immense gratitude to God and Bishop Obi, stating that the financial reward would support their academic journey and help with family responsibilities. She prayed for continued blessings upon the Bishop’s episcopacy.

Her mother, Comrade Anthonia Ajuluchukwu, a staff member at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Bishop, describing his support as overwhelming and deeply encouraging.

Miss Daberechi Egbuna, visibly moved, confessed that she had not expected such a generous reward. “What the Bishop did today shows he truly cares about us,” she said. “I’m determined to make him proud.”

Rev’d Noble Nwokedi, who also serves as the Nnewi Diocesan Coordinator for the Joshua Generation Conference, praised Bishop Obi’s unwavering support for young people. He recounted previous instances where the Bishop stood firmly by the youth and described the financial gesture as a powerful statement that the Church is committed to supporting their growth and faith.

Bishop Obi’s commitment to youth development is well known across the Diocese. His various empowerment programs and infrastructural projects have consistently created opportunities for young people to discover and maximize their potential. His leadership continues to inspire and challenge the standard of Church leadership in the 21st century.

The Joshua Generation International Youth Conference—an initiative of the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), His Grace, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba—is designed to equip young people to take charge of the seven mountains of societal influence. The 2025 edition, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, from April 28 to May 3, featured salvation messages, sports competitions, talent hunts, and more.

Present at the reception were several church leaders, including the Archdeacon of Uruagu North Archdeaconry and Vicar of St. John’s Church, Edorji, Ven. Temple Madunagu, and the Vicar of St. Barth’s Church, Umuezeagu, Rev’d Canon Osita Okoye.
