Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church has died at the age of 88. He died on Monday the 21st of April, 2025.
His passing was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber at 9:45 in the morning.
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father,” the statement read.
“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized.
“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”
The Pope’s death comes after a day after he appeared in St Peter’s Square to wish Happy Easter to thousand of worshippers who have now gathered to mourn.
Several world leaders from the King Charles to Vladimir Putin and even Volodymyr Zelensky have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late Pope.
He was recently discharged from the hospital after a few weeks of treatment for an infection.
