In response to a viral video where former Governor Adams Oshiomhole commented on her childlessness, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, First Lady of Edo State, has urged childless women to see themselves as fruitful and hopeful rather than barren.
Addressing over 200 Edo women in the diaspora during a Zoom meeting, Mrs. Obaseki, joined by Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, wife of the PDP governorship candidate, emphasized that everyone has a divine purpose. “I call you fruitful. Both you and I are potential and proud mothers of children who will come in God’s time. Embrace the life God has given you,” she said.
Drawing from her own experiences with miscarriages and stillbirths, Mrs. Obaseki reassured women that, despite the absence of children, they are not defined by their struggles. “Focus on your purpose and your challenges, and soon you may find that children will come.”
She noted that being fruitful goes beyond just biological motherhood, stressing the importance of making a positive impact on society. “Being fruitful is not limited to having children; it’s about creating change and fulfilling God’s purpose in many ways,” she added.
Mrs. Obaseki’s message was one of encouragement for those who have faced similar losses, urging them to remain hopeful and not be discouraged by their circumstances.
Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo thanked the attendees and vowed to continue Betsy Obaseki’s initiatives for women and the girl-child if her husband is elected.
Mrs. Adesuwa Obasohan, the group’s founder, also expressed her commitment to supporting Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy, following the group’s past support for Governor Godwin Obaseki.
