Rumors about upgrading corps members’ bank accounts for a new N70,000 minimum wage have been denied by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

In a statement released on Saturday, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, clarified that no official directive has been issued to implement the N70,000 minimum wage or modify corps members’ bank accounts. Megwa labeled the circulating reports as completely false and misleading. He advised corps members to remain cautious and not be deceived by false information spread by those aiming to create confusion.

The statement read: “The management of the National Youth Service Corps has become aware of misleading information in the media regarding the payment of a N70,000 minimum wage to corps members and the supposed directive to upgrade their accounts. This information is entirely untrue.

“Corps members, parents, and the public should understand that no directive has been received from the relevant government sector responsible for wage matters.

“It is, therefore, impossible for the NYSC to issue any such information. Corps members are well aware of the proper channels of communication within the scheme and should ignore this false directive.

“The NYSC advises corps members not to fall for the tactics of those spreading misinformation. Bloggers and social media influencers are also warned against making unauthorized statements about the management of the National Youth Service Corps.”
