NUC Accreditation: Rivers State University Launches 18 New Programmes

Achieving a significant milestone, the Rivers State University in Nkpolu-Orowurukwu, Port Harcourt, has secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for all 18 programmes submitted for evaluation. This accreditation follows a rigorous review conducted by the NUC during October and November of 2023.

At a press briefing held in Port Harcourt on Monday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nlerum Okogbule proudly announced the university’s achievement, highlighting that this marks the second occasion the institution has achieved a perfect accreditation score since its establishment. He stated, “I am pleased to inform you and the public that Rivers State University has achieved a flawless 100% score in the NUC’s October/November 2023 Accreditation Exercise.

“The university has secured full accreditation for all 18 academic programmes that were assessed during this exercise. This accomplishment is a significant milestone in our university’s history, and it is the second time we have achieved such a feat since our inception in 1980. Last year, we also attained 100% accreditation for the 24 programmes presented.”

Regarding the readiness of facilities for the newly accredited programmes, Prof. Okogbule assured stakeholders that the university possesses sufficient infrastructure to support these programmes effectively. He explained, “The accreditation process evaluates not only the academic content and faculty but also the physical infrastructure such as classrooms, faculty offices, laboratories, and more. Based on their evaluation, the NUC has confirmed that we meet all requirements for running these programmes effectively.”

Prof. Okogbule also underscored the university’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its students across all campuses.

Expressing gratitude, the VC acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and emphasized the university’s dedication to maintaining its high standards. He credited the Governor and the University’s governing council, led by Her Excellency, Mary Peter-Odili, for their continuous support.

“This commendable achievement would not have been possible without the steadfast support of the Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the University, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the University’s governing council under the dynamic leadership of Her Excellency, Mary Peter-Odili,” Prof. Okogbule concluded.

The accredited programmes include Crop/Soil Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Fisheries, Forestry and Wildlife, Nursing, Adult and Community Education, Agricultural Education, Business Education, Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Technical Education, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Computer Engineering, Marine Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Chemistry, and Physics.
