The House of Representatives has issued a warning that it will call for the dismissal of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, if what they describe as the “attempt to destroy Dangote Refinery” does not cease immediately.

Deputy spokesperson of the House, Philip Agbese, conveyed this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Saturday. Agbese noted that lawmakers had already called for the removal of the leadership of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

He observed that both NNPCL and NMDPRA appear to be intent on undermining the Dangote Refinery. Agbese mentioned that while many Nigerians have canceled the proposed hardship protest, they demand Kyari’s dismissal to ensure the smooth functioning of the country. He added that the House would investigate the ongoing conflict between Dangote Refinery and NMDPRA.

Agbese stated that this investigation aligns with the House’s commitment to protect national assets and critical economic infrastructure like the Dangote Refinery. He said: “We have witnessed numerous demarketing campaigns to discredit the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, causing widespread concern in the country.

“The House has already directed the President to dismiss NMDPRA’s CEO.

“The House of Representatives will not hesitate to call for the dismissal of Mele Kyari if efforts to undermine the refinery project, a vital national asset, do not stop immediately.” It is worth noting that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, had previously led a delegation to visit the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company in Lagos.

Abbas stated that the visit provided valuable insights that would inform the House’s legislative measures and decisions. He emphasized that the House is working to create a more business-friendly environment to attract both local and international investors to Nigeria.
