A man, Victor Igemokha, 37, has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment for stealing two infinix note 4 and 5 phones valued at N96,000 at Palm Mall at Oniru Estate, Maroko and Shoprite Mall, Lekki, Lagos and escaped.

The two phones, according to the police, belonged to Adaosi Nwobodo, a sales executive with the Palm Mall and Oluwole Bolaji of Shoprite Mall, in Lekki.

The convict was sentenced by Magistrate O.M Ajayi in charge of Court 14, Igbosere Magistrate Court, after he pleaded guilty to the two count charges of stealing preferred against him by the Police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, and the facts of the matter presented before the Court by the Police Counsel, Sgt Chinedu Njoku.

Police alleged that trouble started for the convict when he entered the Palm Mall on 20 July, 2017 with the pretext of buying gift items.

Police investigation revealed that while the complainant, Nwobodo was sorting the gift items out for him to select his choice, the convict cleverly stole the Infinix note 4 valued N45,000 on the table and escaped.

The complainant, according to the Police played the CCTV cameras mounted inside the Shopping Mall and saw that the convict stole the phone and reported the matter to the Police.

Police further alleged that the convict also went to the Shoprite Mall in Lekki on 25 July pretending to buy something and in the process stole the infinix hot note. 5 valued N46,000 belonging to Oluwole Bolji and escaped.

Police said that nemesis however caught up with the convict when he went back to the Palm Mall to steal another phone and he was caught and handed over to the Police.

 

Magistrate Ajayi sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment without an options of fine, adding that the sentence would run concurrently.
