Over N500 million was disbursed as payment of terminal benefits to 365 who retired from active service on attainment of thirty-five years in service between the period of July to October this year by the Jigawa State and local Government Contributory Pension Board, the board Executive Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Sulaiman Kiyawa, has disclosed.

Addressing a press conference at the premises of the board while making the disbursement, Kiyawa said the payment was categorized into four categories, indicating that the first batch of 269 retired staff consist of those who retired either by reaching the mandatory retirement age of 35 years in service or sixty years by birth were paid N 376 million.

The second categories of sixty-two staff are those who died while on active service, where their relations were paid the sum of N111 million, while the third batch consist of twenty-five retirees who retired from service and started receiving monthly pension but died before reaching their minimum period of five years after retirement. These people were paid N14.18 million.

The last batch were beneficiaries who did not contribute up to eight per cent of their basic salary into coffers of Contributory Pension for a period of five years, and the law stated that for every staff to qualify to be paid from the scheme was for him to contribute up to eight per cent of his basic salary for a minimum period of five years.

“Under this categories, we have detected nine people, where we paid their relations the sum of N959,450.

Kiyawa warn pensioners across Jigawa state to be wary of fraudsters, saying “Our services are free; never bribe any of our staff for your terminal benefits, as we worked under guidelines establishing our board in line with consonant of pension regulations.”
