The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Friday, vowed that it would not process any Direct Entry admission without certificate verification for the Advanced Level candidates that applied for the 2023 admissions.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on the Board’s official X handle.

This development is coming after the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, on Tuesday announced the suspension of accreditation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo.

According to a statement signed by Augustina Obilor-Duru on behalf of the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, the government lamented that “some Nigerians deploy nefarious means and unconscionable methods to get a Degree with the end objective of getting graduate job opportunities for which they are not qualified”.

It followed an investigative report by Daily Nigerian Newspaper titled “How Daily Nigerian reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks”.

The Board said the candidates should contact their former institutions for prompt verification of their certificates as it would not consider all affected students of non-responsive institutions for admissions for the academic year.

JAMB said it had written to all tertiary institutions that issued the certificates, but a significant number of them responded positively, while others have not.

The examination body also provided links for candidates to access the list of non-responsive institutions.

The statement read, “This is to inform all A-Level candidates that applied for the 2023 admissions through Direct Entry (DE) to contact their former institutions for prompt verification of their certificates.

“To expedite the verification process, the Board, on its part, has written to all tertiary institutions that issued the certificates, and a significant number of them have responded positively, while others have been lackadaisical.

“You are to hereby note that the Board will not process any DE admission without certificate verification and that the admission process for the academic year will soon be concluded.

“As such, the Board would not consider all affected students of non-responsive institutions for admissions for the academic year.”
