The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.
The board disclosed this in a post on its official X account on Monday following a visit by its Registrar, Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
According to JAMB, the proposed centre will enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria specifically for the examination.
The board said the initiative was aimed at making the examination more accessible to Nigerians abroad while strengthening their connection with the Nigerian education system.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home. JAMB is working towards establishing a UTME centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027,” the board said.
JAMB added that the centre would also provide an opportunity to promote Nigerian tertiary education among Nigerians living abroad.
The board said the initiative would create “more access, fewer barriers” for candidates in Canada and other parts of North America seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The proposed Ottawa centre is expected to commence operations in 2027.
JAMB had earlier introduced specialised UTME centres for persons with disabilities in 11 states across Nigeria, including Lagos, Oyo, Abuja, Enugu, Kano, Bauchi and Benin.
