Remo Stars Defender, Sodiq Ismail is determined to stake a claim for a regular playing berth in the Super Eagles.
The right-back has been handed his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
Ismail alongside Olorunleke Ojo and Kenneth Igboke are the only home-based players in the team.
The young defender reckoned it is a privilege to be in the team and will do his best to justify his selection.
“It’s a privilege to be with senior, top players. I hope to learn a few things from them. Well, I can’t say much about my club performance because I didn’t expect a call-up to the national team. So I have to do my best and make the best of my stay here,” he told the Super Eagles media.
Ahead of the game against South Africa Ismail said the Super Eagles are not under pressure to pick maximum points.
“We’re not under pressure, because we will win by God’s grace. If I’m called upon, I will be ready to give my all. We will prove ourselves if we have the chance. We will get the qualification for the World Cup,” he added.
