Benin Republic Thursday night beat Group C table toppers, Rwanda to overtake South Africa and Nigeria in the Match Day 3 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after a 1-0 win in Abidjan.
The win has temporarily changed the Group C table as Benin moved from their initial fourth position to the second and thus pushed South Africa and Nigeria to the third and fourth positions respectively.
Benin’s goal came in the 37th minute through Douko Dodo. Both Rwanda and Benin Republic have four points, but Rwanda have a better goal difference. To a certain extent, the result is good for either Nigeria and South Africa if their clash on Friday produces a winner.
Nigeria will go atop of the group with five points if the Super Eagles win. The same applies to South Africa as a win will take their points to six.
