The Federal Government has launched an urgent investigation into the jailbreak at the Koton Karfe Custodial Centre in Kogi State.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the incident as unfortunate in a statement released on Monday in Abuja by his Media Adviser, Babatunde Alao. He assured that all escaped inmates would be tracked and recaptured using the service’s biometric database and advanced technology solutions.

Additionally, the Minister directed the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to visit the facility, assess the situation, and conduct a thorough audit to determine the circumstances surrounding the breach.

“We have the situation under control. Our personnel are on the ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a full-scale audit of the incident,” he stated.

Reports indicate that the jailbreak occurred on Monday, leading to the escape of at least 12 inmates, while one custodial officer remains missing.
