SYNOD RESOLUTIONS OF DIOCESE OF ABUJA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

RESOLUTIONS MADE AT THE 3RD SESSION OF THE 12TH SYNOD

The Diocese of Abuja, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), at the 3rd Session of the 12th Synod which held from Thursday, 29th of May – Sunday, 1st of June, 2025 at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Team 6, Gwarimpa, Abuja, presided over by the Diocesan, The Most Revd Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, after extensive deliberations resolved as follows:

1. DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY ON DIOCESAN SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, Synod noted that the premier schools of the Diocese have been constructed over a long period and are deteriorating in structure, among other things.
AND WHEREAS, Synod further noted that the schools are located within the city centre and require adequate facelift across board to make them competitive among other private and public schools in the Federal Capital Territory city.
AND WHEREAS, Synod noted the concern of the Diocesan to immediately declare a state of emergency with respect to all the structures of the Diocesan premier schools.
AND WHEREAS, Synod, after extensive deliberations, accepted the report on the state of the schools
BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby resolved, that Synod, having accepted a state of emergency declaration by the Diocesan, approved that funds be set aside to immediately begin to address the infrastructural deficit of the Diocesan schools.

2. RURAL CHURCHES TO BE ENGAGED IN AGRO BUSINESSES

WHEREAS, Synod received the report from across the Archdeaconries on the level of evangelism and mission in the mission fields of the Federal Capital Territory.
AND WHEREAS, Synod applauded the level of support from the Societies and Service Arms of the Archdeaconries to build rural Churches.
AND WHEREAS, Synod noted the urgent need for effective mobility of the evangelists to achieve the purpose of their appointment and welcomed the immediate provision of fourteen (14) motorcycles.
AND WHEREAS, Synod directed that the Supervising Priests begin to encourage their evangelists to undertake agricultural businesses to augment their mission resources, among other things.
AND WHEREAS, Synod directed that the Diocesan Education Management Board undertake an inventory of the schools located in the mission fields in preparation for proper documentation and alignment of support for the next academic session.
AND WHEREAS, Synod noted the concern of the Diocesan on the need to improve the capacity of the Lay Assistants in the Diocese and Synod therefore directed the Diocesan Training Centre to establish the Theological Education Extension (TEE) programme for discipleship and training of Lay Assistants in the rural Churches.
BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby resolved, that the above reports be accepted and the actions taken on the provision of fourteen (14) motorcycles, those to be undertaken by the Diocesan Education Management Board (DEMB), and the Diocesan Training Centre be implemented as soon as possible.

3. OVERHAUL OF THE MANAGEMENT OF CROWTHER CHARIOTS SERVICES LTD.

WHEREAS, Synod noted the essence of the establishment of Crowther Chariots Services Ltd to provide topmost, robust and proficient Guards capable of delivering efficient and satisfactory security services to their clients.
AND WHEREAS, Synod also noted concerns raised about some unsavory incidents which happened in the course of the Guards being on duty in certain locations.
AND WHEREAS, Synod noted that while the outfit was now generating profit, it has become essential to look inward as to the mode of recruitment, training and retraining of the Guards and the general management of the outfit.
BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby resolved, that there may be a need to re-evaluate the general administration of Crowther Chariot Services Ltd.

4. CONSTITUTION OF COMPLIANCE AND MONITORING TEAM ON IMPLEMENTATION OF SYNOD RESOLUTIONS

WHEREAS, Synod noted the essence of constituting a compliance and monitoring team for the implementation of the Synod Resolutions.
AND WHEREAS, Synod recommended the constitution of the membership of the team to the Diocesan
BE IT RESOLVED and it is hereby resolved, that a compliance and monitoring team on the implementation of the Synod Resolutions be constituted by the Diocesan.
