The Rt. Revd. Emmanuel Oko- Jaja has implored everyone that wants to follow Jesus to deny him/herself from the things of the world and follow the cross, he goes further to explain what the cross means to every Christian.
Bishop Oko-jaja made this assertion while ministering at the lenten season program of the Diocese of Abuja, Tagged The Way of the Cross program 2023 which was held at the Basilica Of Grace, AGGS Compound, Gudu, Abuja.
He noted that the cross is a Trinitarian, a symbol of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Father sent the Son to save man and Son obeyed sacrificing himself for the sins of the world; there is no greater sacrifice than this.
‘The cross is the center of the story in the scriptures, a Bible with no Cross is a Bible without a solution. Christians need to have faith and acknowledge the cross.  In 1Cor. 2:2 God’s wisdom is explained and displayed in the cross. The Cross is a refined power in the Kingdom of Heaven because at the mention of the name of Jesus, every kneel shall bow. The Cross inaugurated a new covenant, The death of Jesus marked the beginning of a new covenant that shapes Christianity to what it is now.
The Cross conquers sin and death,Jesus conquered hell and death before he rose again on the third day that is why as believers Christ is seen in us, we should not give fear a chance in our lives. Jesus being a sacrificial lamb took our place, died for the forgiveness of our sins and has conquered death for us to be delivered.  The cross brings peace and reconciliation and it is an altar for believers.’
The Bishop urged the congregation to follow Jesus because he knows the way. There is no genuine Christianity without obedience because when you decide to follow Christ, he will not deceive you, he will heal and take care of you.
