Dangote Cement Intensifies Driver Safety Training with “Absolute Safer Road Policy”

Dangote Cement Plc is taking a firm stance on road safety by rigorously training and retraining its thousands of truck drivers across Nigeria. 

The company’s management has declared road safety a top priority, a commitment that was highlighted during its 2025 Annual Drivers’ Retreat themed “Absolute Safer Road Policy.” 

The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and, most importantly, ensure safer roads for all Nigerians.

angoteDuring the recent retreat held in Ilaro, Ogun State, over 200 drivers from the Ibese plant received extensive training. The company plans to extend this exercise to drivers in Obajana, Kogi State, next week. 

According to Dangote Cement’s Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, the annual training is designed to reinforce the company’s core values and ensure drivers are committed to a policy of zero tolerance for reckless driving.

Pathak revealed a detailed and stringent recruitment process for all drivers, which includes, a valid Class G driver’s license., background verification of both the driver and their guarantors and comprehensive medical evaluation, covering vision, blood pressure, blood sugar, and a rigorous drug and alcohol screening.

The company’s commitment to safety goes beyond recruitment. All drivers are expected to undergo mandatory pre-trip medical assessments by licensed medical professionals to ensure they are physically and mentally fit to operate safely.

Dangote Cement is also actively collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory agencies to ensure that all training, compliance, and operational procedures are not only standardized but also continuously improved. 

The company maintained its stance as a responsible organization that is ready to cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation of any reported incidents.

To further instill a culture of safety, a road safety expert, Mr. Oje Ebhota, advised the drivers on key habits for accident-free journeys, such as avoiding dangerous overtaking and adhering to a 60km per hour speed limit. 

Mr. James Adenuga, Group Chief, Health Safety Social and Environment Officer at Dangote Industries Limited, emphasized that the training aims to continuously remind drivers of essential safety protocols, not just the consequences of violations.
