Wednesday’s injunction also prevents the State Security Service, the Nigeria Police, and the Conduct Bureau (CCB) from investigating Mr. Mahmood over his assets declaration.
The Garki Division of the FCT High Court on Tuesday barred security agencies from arresting the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yakubu Mahmood, over false assets declaration allegations.
Justice Maryam Hassan threw out allegations leveled against Mr. Mahmood, saying they were “fabricated.”
Wednesday’s injunction also prevents the State Security Service, the Nigeria Police, and the Conduct Bureau (CCB) from investigating Mr. Mahmood over his assets declaration.
Allegations against the INEC Chairman stemmed from a summons filed by Somadina Uzoamaka against Mr Mahmood and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The claimant prayed the court to grant an injunction compelling the INEC Chairman to step down, pending the investigation of allegations against him.
Mr. Mahmood, however, presented a counterclaim that the court found worthy.
