Gunmen stormed the Celestial Church of Christ’s Eagle Parish in Odo Eran, Idiroko, Ogun State, on Sunday, killing a 54-year-old prophet during an active service. The attackers opened fire on the cleric and fled the scene, plunging the congregation into chaos.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Abeokuta, the state capital, on Sunday.

“On January 19, 2025, around 10:30 AM, the divisional police officer of Idiroko received a report that a murder had occurred at a Celestial Church along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko,” Odutola stated.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Yomi Adetula, the 54-year-old victim, lying in a pool of blood, his white celestial garment soaked. Closer inspection revealed multiple bullet wounds and severe head injuries inflicted with an axe.

During the investigation, it was discovered that three assailants entered the church armed with a long double-barreled gun. They targeted Adetula, fired at him, and fled toward the border area, leaving the congregation in disarray.

No arrests have been made, but police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. The prophet’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro for further investigation.
