In a stirring appeal for action, Bishop Jeremiah Ndana-Kolo of the Anglican Communion, Kutigi Diocese in Niger State, has voiced grave concern over the pervasive hardship experienced by Nigerians. Calling attention to the pressing need for intervention, Bishop Ndana-Kolo advocates for enhanced measures to alleviate the current struggles faced by individuals across the nation.

Concluding this year’s three-day Synod at St. John’s Anglican Church, Mokwa in Niger, Bishop Jeremiah Ndana-Kolo sounded a clarion call regarding the soaring prices of foodstuffs and essential commodities plaguing Nigerians. Expressing concern over the plight of the people, he emphasized the urgent need for intervention to alleviate their hardships.

Joining in reflection, Rev. Solomon Gana, the Administrator of the Diocese, expressed gratitude for the grace that enabled them to convene another session of the 2024 Synod. During his sermon on the Synod’s first day, he urged Christians to embrace the historical roots of their faith.

In a show of solidarity, Bishop Jonah Kolo of Bida Diocese praised Bishop Kutigi for orchestrating a successful Synod, marking a historic milestone in advancing God’s work.

The Synod’s communique, signed by Bishop Jeremiah Ndana-Kolo, underscored the imperative for government action to combat insecurity, notably banditry and kidnappings. It urged Christians to find contentment amidst economic challenges and to embody love for God and neighbor.

While commending Gov. Umar Bago’s efforts in youth employment, agriculture, and infrastructure development, the Synod implored heightened government vigilance in addressing security threats, particularly youth unrest.

Furthermore, the Synod exhorted Christians to amplify their evangelistic endeavors, fostering godliness in society. Emphasizing the need for faith to be demonstrated through action, it reiterated the theme of this year’s synod: “Confession of Faith and its Confirmation.”

Amidst the Synod’s proceedings, the widows’ end-of-year thanksgiving and the recognition of distinguished individuals added a celebratory dimension. Notable honorees included Mr. James Bake-Tetengi, recently appointed Permanent Secretary, and Princess Rachel Yisa, recognized for her political appointment by the Niger Government. Additionally, six esteemed personalities commemorated their 70th birthdays, lauded for their contributions to Christianity’s growth in the Diocese.

With the presence of twenty-eight House of Clergy and thirty-seven House of Laity, the Synod served as a moment of collective reflection, celebration, and recommitment to the tenets of faith.
