President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday threw his weight behind the decision of the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-rufai, to sack 21,780 teachers who recently failed the competency test conducted by the state government.
Buhari was speaking at the State House in Abuja during a special retreat of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the challenges facing the Education sector in Nigeria themed: “Education in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects”.
The president described as unaccountable a situation where teachers were not different from their students in terms of learning.
Buhari decried the bad condition of the nation’s education sector as 13.2 million children were out of school.
Education Minister Adamu Adamu said it would take Buhari’s administration N1 trillion annually for the next four years to fulfill its 13 campaign promises on education.
