TOPIC: WHAT A GREAT HUMILITY

TEXT: Philippians 2:5-11(NKJV)

2:5.  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

2:6.  who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

2:7.  but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, [and] coming in the likeness of men.

2:8.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to [the point of] death, even the death of the cross.

2:9.  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

2:10.  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

2:11.  and [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

STUDY:

In reading today, Christ demonstrated the greatest form of humility having laid aside the majesty of his former appearance as God and coming down in man’s likeness to redeem us from our sinful nature. He emptied himself, was shed of the honors and glories of the upper world and clothed himself with human nature (Heb. 2:17). One would have thought that the Lord Jesus if He would be a man, should have been a prince, and appeared in splendor. But quite the contrary, He took upon himself the form of a servant. His whole life was a life of humiliation, meanness, poverty and disgrace; He had nowhere to lay his head. He was a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, died the death of the cross, a cursed, painful and shameful death. Such was the level to which the blessed Jesus descended. He therefore expects that his ambassador must carry the gospel having the same mind as Christ-“Let this mind be in you also…” If you are of him, his traits must be in you; let others see Jesus in you through your conversation and lifestyle. You must live in and be clothed with humility.

PRAYER:

Father give me a new heart of humility so that others will see Jesus through me, Amen!
