TOPIC: GOD’S POWER AND WISDOM

TEXT: I Corinthians 1:17-25(NKJV)

1:17.  For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

1:18.  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1:19.  For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

1:20.  Where [is] the wise? Where [is] the scribe? Where [is] the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1:21.  For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

1:22.  For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

1:23.  but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,

1:24.  but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1:25.  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

STUDY:

In our text, Apostle Paul makes it clear that the Gospel, which is Jesus Christ, is the power of God. God’s power to reconcile and restore man can only be traced back to Jesus Christ, who has been since the foundation of the world (Prov.8:23). Apostle Paul also described Jesus Christ in the last part of verse 24 of our text as the wisdom of God. Power and wisdom are essential in the life of anybody who wants to succeed here and beyond. We will be powerless, foolish and unfulfilled if Jesus Christ is absent in our lives because worldly wisdom is foolishness unto God (v.20b).

Therefore, in all our ambitions in life, we must acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives so our existence can be meaningful and impactful. The level of our academic attainment or exposure is vanity if Jesus Christ is not in our lives. Since the power and wisdom of God is Jesus Christ, then, anyone aiming to see God at the end must do away with sinful living and surrender all to Jesus Christ who is the power and wisdom of God.

PRAYER

Oh Lord, turn my foolishness to wisdom through Jesus Christ, Amen!
