TOPIC: UNITED IN SERVICE
TEXT: Colossians 4:15-18(NKJV)
4:15. Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas and the church that [is] in his house.
4:16. Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
4:17. And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.”
4:18. This salutation by my own hand — Paul. Remember my chains. Grace [be] with you. Amen.
STUDY:
Using four critical commands, Paul concluded his epistle with a charge concerning the ways that the Colossians themselves were to serve (vv. 15-18). He communicated a desire for fellowship with the churches in Colossae and Laodicea; then a desire for the circulation of his letters between the churches (highlighting the importance of the Word in the life of the church); an encouragement to a specific member of the church (Archippus) concerning the call of God upon his life so that he would fulfill it, and a final exhortation regarding prayer-that they should pray for him in his prison chains. He closed with a blessing of “grace be with you” (v.18). From these final verses, we learn much about how we are to build up unity with one another in God’s service. Believers in Christ should love and cooperate with one another, sharing the precious word of God within the church family and among the brethren! This tells the rest of the world that Jesus is our Lord. We are to pray for, support, encourage, respect and exhort one another towards faithful service and fulfillment of our calling. So much of the success of God’s work and that of his faithful workers, depends on our prayers. With this and the grace of God in our midst, the church will flourish.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, unite your church in your service through Christ our Lord, Amen!
