TOPIC: WALKING WORTHY OF OUR VOCATION

TEXT: Ephesians 4:1-3(NKJV)

  • 4:1. I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
  • 4:2. with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
  • 4:3. endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

STUDY:

As Christians, we travel an appointed path. It is a path that our Lord Jesus travelled, leaving us an example to follow in his steps (1 Pet. 2:21). The Christian vocation is simply a call to walk as Jesus walked. There is a life worthy or befitting our calling. It is a life patterned after Christ.

Our Lord Jesus himself made a call, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”(Matt. 11:29).

So, the plea of Paul to every believer in our text is the same as the call of Christ. We are to walk worthy of our vocation with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Notice that he does not ask us to create that unity – this has already been accomplished through the work of the Christ and his Spirit. Rather, he calls believers to guard that unity.

While we render our services, we must not leave behind the manner of life worthy of our calling. How worthy is your life?

PRAYER:

Father, open my eyes to see Jesus only, and to pattern my life after him, Amen!
