STUDY:

Every 4th Sunday in Lent is usually tagged the Mothering Sunday, ir time in the Church calendar dedicated to honouring the “Mother Chun (the church where you were baptised). However, in recent times, the fo is gradually shifted towards honouring our mothers, showing appreciat to them for their innumerable sacrifice.

God is so particular ab honouring one’s parent and giving them allthe accord that is due (Ex 20:12, Lev.20:9). In today’s passage, Jesus Christ pointed out issues w practices of the Pharisees and Scribes (the teachers of the Law) are at sha variance with the traditions of the elders which was inspired by the Law God, particularly in the area of honouring one’s parent.

He rebuked the for failing in their responsibility to help needy parents in line with Go word, using the excuse that tradition permitted them to dedicate the resources to God only.

The matter of taking care of one’s parent is ve important to God, and we must handle it with all seriousness. Jest demonstrated this honour when He, during the most horrific period of H life, still ensured that made adequate provision for the welfare of Hi grieving mother before His departure.

Friends, please note that taking care of one’s parent is a spiritua exercise that attracts God’s blessings. As we commemorate this year Mothering Sunday;

Here are few tips on how celebrate it: do somethin special for your mom today (pray for her, tell her how much she meant your Mother Church (if possible, worship with them, send a gift to them and if God has blessed you enough, meet a need in the church).

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, help me to place your word above the traditions of men, Amen.
