3:12 I will leave in your midst, A meek and humble people, And they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
3:13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness, And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, And no one shall make them afraid.”
3:14 Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!
3:15 The Lord has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; You shall [a]see disaster no more.
3:16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak.
3:17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
3:18“I will gather those who sorrow over the appointed assembly, Who are among you, To whom its reproach is a burden.
3:19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all who afflict you; I will save the lame, And gather those who were driven out; I will appoint them for praise and fame, In every land where they were put to shame.
3:20 At that time I will bring you back, Even at the time I gather you; For I will give you [b]fame and praise
Among all the peoples of the earth, When I return your captives before your eyes,” Says the Lord.
STUDY:
In concluding the Book of Zephaniah, God gave a message of hope to His people. The concept of the remnant was brought out very clearly. This remnant referred to those who have separated themselves from popular but ungodly lifestyles and choices; those that have distinguished themselves from the general pool of the worldly and rebellious company. According to Zephaniah, the remnant would not do iniquity or speak lies, neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth (vv. 12 & 13). This group of people would act as God’s ambassadors and God can entrust them with activities that would bring Him glory and honour.
Beloved, you are a member of the remnant group on earth today, by virtue of your faith in Jesus Christ. The nature of God is in you; the nature that hates sinful practices but embraces righteousness and peace (1 John 3:10). God is depending on you to bring out the truth in your immediate and distant environments.
Wherever you find yourself, you are supposed to represent Jesus Christ, and you must live by the truth revealed in the Holy Scriptures. You are God’s chosen generation, a person of His own and peculiar treasure (1 Pet. 2:9). Therefore, live to honour Him. Even if all around you are opposed to the truth, you must stand for the Lord and be a symbol of His truth. As a member of the remnant group in this time, God depends on you and you cannot afford to disappoint Him.
Prayer:
Lord, I receive grace to live faithfully unto you from today. Amen\
